PAS eyeing 4 seats in next Sarawak polls

Sarawak PAS delegate Rashidi Halun said the state chapter has set different objectives and drawn up action plans for the constituencies it is looking to contest in.

Sarawak PAS is looking to contest in four constituencies at the next state election and hopes to win its first seat since the local chapter was established 30 years ago.

Sarawak PAS delegate Rashidi Halun said its target of four seats was not merely a number, as the party had set different objectives and drawn up action plans for the constituencies.

“We know why we must contest. We know our strengths and weaknesses and what we want to establish.

“With 82 seats, Sarawak is the state with the most number of seats, and 17 more will be added,” he said when debating the president’s policy speech at the PAS muktamar here today.

“For the last 30 years we have worked to build (our presence). Winning our first seat would be a reward.”

He hoped the PAS leadership and state leaders will help Sarawak PAS achieve its goal.

PAS contested the Sarawak elections in 2011, 2016 and 2021 without success.

In July, Sarawak PAS chief Arifiriazul Paijo said it was aiming to contest at least eight seats in the next state polls based on its performance previously.

The state assembly’s term expires in February, unless dissolved earlier. An election must be held within 60 days of dissolution, or by April at the latest. - FMT
