Perlis PAS Youth wants action taken against MB for ‘tarnishing’ party’s image

KOTA BHARU:
Perlis PAS Youth is demanding that action be taken against menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah for allegedly tarnishing the party and Perikatan Nasional’s image in the state.

A delegate from Perlis, Ali Na’imi Ahmad Azizi, claimed that Abu Bakar was treating PAS assemblymen like the opposition.

“The state government is also seemingly taking arbitrary action against political appointees from PAS, such as the removal of councillors,” he said when debating the speech by the wing’s chief, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, at its muktamar here.

Abu Bakar of Bersatu was appointed Perlis’s ninth menteri besar in December, succeeding Shukri Ramli who resigned due to health reasons.

His appointment came amid a political crisis in Perlis, which saw eight PN assemblymen, including five from Bersatu, reportedly submitting statutory declarations to the ruler to withdraw their support for Shukri, who is from PAS.

The Perlis political crisis eventually saw PAS severing ties with Bersatu, although the latter remained in the opposition coalition.

Meanwhile, Ali Na’imi said the biggest challenge to Muslim unity, which the party has been championing, would be to preserve it after it has been achieved.

He said any leadership tussle, if left unchecked, could impact its relationship with its allies.
