PN to review state leaders' performance: Takiyuddin; 11 M'sian rescuers sent to Nepal

 

PAS muktamar

• PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said Perikatan Nasional will hold a meeting this month to review the performance of its state chairpersons.

  Winding up the debate at the PAS muktamar, he said the meeting followed a suggestion raised by delegates during the debate on the party’s policy speech.

  He said the PN state chairpersons’ appointments were decided by the coalition's supreme council on March 14, with some appointments since deferred or changed for various reasons.

  “Because when they were appointed previously, the PN chairperson (Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar) stated in the minutes that the appointments made were subject to a performance review after six months. So, appointed in March, it would be six months by September,” Takiyuddin explained.

  He said the review is particularly in light of problems involving PN component parties whose positions were not yet stable.

Nepal floods

• The Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team has sent 11 officers and personnel to Nepal to aid in search and rescue operations.

  Bernama reported that National Disaster Management Agency director-general Meor Ismail Meor Akim said that the mission is expected to last around 10 days.

  

  “We may be deployed to the tunnel area, but that will depend on the briefing there. In this operation, we will rescue anyone who needs help, but our focus will be the area where our (Malaysian) citizens were last reported to be,” he told a press conference in Subang today.

Serian haze emergency

• Sarawak Deputy Premier Douglas Uggah Embas said workplaces in Serian may continue their operations amid the ongoing haze emergency under the condition that they take precautionary health measures.

  According to Bernama, the state Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairperson said in a statement today that the haze situation is being monitored.

  

  “SDMC is monitoring the Air Pollutant Index (API) level in Serian over these three days in anticipation of any fluctuation of the API level, should it increase to a level above 500.

  “This monitoring is to be done before any recommendation is proposed to Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the status of emergency in Serian,” he stated. - Mkini
