Probe Hadi’s claim of US anti-govt offer, says PKR Youth

 Youth wing chief Kamil Munim said the authorities must determine if the claim was true, as the US embassy has denied making any offer.

The authorities must investigate the claim by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that representatives of the US embassy had once offered assistance to bring down the government, PKR Youth said today.

Youth chief Kamil Munim said the statement made by the PAS president was very serious as it touched on an alleged attempt at a conspiracy involving a foreign power.

“Since the US embassy has issued a denial, we want the authorities to launch an investigation and determine whether the allegation made is true or otherwise. If it is true, firm and immediate action must be taken,” he said.

Yesterday, the US chargé d’affaires, David Gamble, said the US had never sought to determine Malaysia’s political leadership and described any statement to the contrary as false.

Hadi’s claim was made in a speech at the PAS general assembly in Kota Bharu yesterday. He said the US offer was made when Barisan Nasional was in power. - FMT
