Puteri Umno to focus on raising membership age limit to 40 this year

The wing’s chief, Nurul Amal Fauzi, expresses hope that the party leadership will respond to the motion raised at last year’s general assembly.

Puteri Umno chief Nurul Amal Fauzi said political cooperation with other parties is not on the wing’s main agenda this year.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Puteri Umno chief Nurul Amal Fauzi’s speech at this year’s general assembly for the party will focus on raising the wing’s membership age limit from 35 to 40.

She said the wing hoped the party leadership would respond to, or at least give an indication on, the motion raised at last year’s general assembly.

“If the leadership does not give an answer or hint, the Puteri grassroots will feel that the leadership is not listening to the wing,” she said, expressing hope that an answer would come before the current leadership’s term expires.

Speaking to FMT at the Puteri Umno office at Menara Tun Hussein Onn, she said the proposal to raise the age limit was to ensure the continuity of leadership and prevent leaders nurtured in the wing from being sidelined once they reach the current age limit of 35.

She also said Puteri Umno had invited Ameerah PAS, PAS’s young women’s wing, to this year’s Umno general assembly to strengthen ties, not because the two sides had forged a political cooperation.

“It is not wrong to be friends. Just as in life, being friends does not necessarily lead to marriage,” she said.

She said Ameerah PAS’s presence at the general assembly would be good for long-term ties between Umno and PAS, but that political cooperation was not on Puteri Umno’s main agenda this year. - FMT
