A former minister’s remand has been extended by two days as part of MACC’s probe into the Tabung Haji royal commission of inquiry report.
According to The Star, MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman confirmed that the extension order was granted by the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court today.
The unnamed man in his 60s - believed to be former religious affairs minister Jamil Khir Baharom - was previously remanded for five days, the report said.
Kampar MP Chong Zhemin said that there is a significant discrepancy between PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s account of an alleged US offer to topple the BN government and that of the party’s secretary-general.
Chong noted that PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, who confirmed being present at the meeting in question, did not corroborate Hadi’s central claim.
Chong Zhemin "Takiyuddin confirmed attending the meeting, but said the embassy representative asked whether PAS had any plans to bring down the BN government.
"He did not confirm that the US offered PAS money, resources, political support or any other form of assistance," Chong said in a statement today, pointing out that an inquiry is not an offer.
Chong called on Hadi to explain the stark difference between his version of events and Takiyuddin’s, and to substantiate his claim, including by providing evidence of the alleged offer, or withdraw the allegation.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the MACC to investigate delays in the supply of Fertiliser 3 to paddy farmers in the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) area in Kedah.
Bernama reported him saying that if any wrongdoing was detected, supply contracts should be cancelled and those responsible, including any involved companies, should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Anwar said paddy farmers should not be burdened with issues affecting their livelihoods, especially as they were already facing other challenges, including water supply problems and hot weather.
The media had previously reported a call by PAS' Pengkalan Kundor assemblyperson Mardhiyyah Johari for the government to consider compensation for farmers affected by the delays, which reportedly affected about 38,000 paddy farmers.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu reportedly said that the fertiliser had been supplied since last Thursday, and distribution was expected to be completed within 10 days. - Mkini
