Shazmir bags two titles in standout show at U-18 championships

 The 18-year-old took the men's doubles title with Damien Ling, and the mixed doubles title with Genevie Lim.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s junior squad claimed four titles in five events at the national Under-18 championships today, with 18-year-old Shazmir Irfan the standout performer.

He bagged two titles, in the men’s doubles with Damien Ling, and mixed doubles with Genevie Lim, in the tournament held in Alor Setar.

Shazmir-Damien defeated teammates Khairul Azlan Khashah-Yusuf M Iqbal 15-9, 15-13 in 22 minutes, then Shazmir-Genevie triumphed in the mixed doubles against Yusuf-Teh Si Yan 15-11, 15-10 in 20 minutes.

The men’s singles title went to Lim Boon Le who came from behind to emerge victorious against Chong Lee Qian 9-15, 17-15, 15-8 in 50 minutes. Sabah’s Saidatul Saadiah took the women’s singles title when she overcame national junior shuttler Lee Kay Xin 7-15, 17-15, 15-8 in a 50-minute battle.

In the women’s doubles, Nur Aina Maisarah Hatta-Teh Si Yan saw off Rachel Tan-Teh Xin Ying 15-11, 16-14 to claim the title. - FMT
