Chean Chung inactive in PKR for a year, says Anwar

The PKR president responds to the former MP's imminent resignation from the party.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim thanked Lee Chean Chung, who announced his resignation as the Petaling Jaya MP today, for his services.
KUALA LUMPUR:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has downplayed Lee Chean Chung’s imminent resignation from the party, saying he has been an inactive member.

Anwar said Lee, who announced his resignation as the Petaling Jaya MP today following his three-year suspension from PKR, has not attended party meetings for a year or shown up for the party congress in August.

“If he is no longer interested (in the party), it is not a problem. We part ways on good terms.

“I want to thank him for his contributions,” Anwar, who is also the prime minister, told reporters after visiting the air force quarters in Sungai Besi.

Earlier today, Lee, who is also a former PKR communications director, said he would resign from the party on Monday.

Anwar said Lee’s resignation would not impact the projects planned for Petaling Jaya.

“Nor will his resignation impact the allocation set aside for the constituency,” he said. - FMT
