PETALING JAYA:
A Perlis-based freelance motivational speaker linked to an alleged sexual harassment allegation has been rearrested after police received another report against him, this time from a 19-year-old woman.

Perlis police chief Hamzah Hashim said the latest report was lodged yesterday and involved claims similar to those in the earlier case, Berita Harian reported.

He said the suspect had earlier been granted police bail after his two-day remand order in connection with the first report lodged in Padang Besar expired today.

The man had been remanded to assist in an investigation into alleged sexual harassment involving a minor.

“The suspect was rearrested by the Kangar district criminal investigation department’s intelligence and operations team for further action,” he was quoted as saying.

Hamzah said the latest case was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with acts or words intended to insult a person’s modesty or intrude on their privacy, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which covers the improper use of communications networks.

Police are also investigating the case under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which deals with indecent, threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Section 509 carries a sentence of up to five years’ jail, a fine, or both, while Section 233 provides for a maximum RM500,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. Section 14 carries a maximum RM100 fine.

Hamzah said the suspect will be brought to the Kangar magistrates’ court tomorrow for a fresh remand order.

On Thursday, education minister Fadhlina Sidek ordered all school programmes involving the motivational speaker to be stopped immediately following allegations of inappropriate conduct circulating on social media. - FMT
