MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and singer-actress Bella Astillah have officially solemnised their marriage in a single-vow ceremony at 10.40am today.
Former Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri officiated the ceremony, with Bella given away by her father, Awang Astillah Abdullah.
The groom presented a mas kahwin of RM500 alongside an exchange of seven gift trays (hantaran) from the groom for nine from the bride. Both wore customary attire designed by Zaimi Zulkafli for the Arabic-themed event, which hosted 255 close guests and set a milestone as the first wedding held at the iconic Merdeka 118 precinct.
The wedding follows Syed Saddiq’s viral response on Threads just a day prior to the tabling of Budget 2027 in Parliament.
Replying to a user who commended him for attending Parliament on the eve of his wedding, the 34-year-old politician wrote: “Today is for the rakyat, tomorrow is for the wife. (I) need to show up for both.”
The post drew over 170,000 views.
Following today’s solemnisation, the couple will hold a dinner reception at MITEC on Oct 18, followed by two Kenduri Rakyat sessions open to the public in Muar on Oct 25 and Kota Kinabalu on Oct 31.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul also wished “Selamat Pengantin Baru Muar” (“Congratulations on your wedding, Muar”) at the end of the Budget 2027 tabling, referring to Syed Saddiq’s constituency. — Focus Malaysia
