New FAM president must put his money where his mouth is

YOURSAY | ‘Action must follow despite the apology.’

SNAPSHOT | New FAM chief regrets 'heritage' players scandal, vows no repeat

Ex-deputy IGP appointed as FAM Integrity Committee chair

Quigonbond: I understand that the new Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) chief was vice‑president under the previous FAM leadership, so he’s still an insider.

Honestly, I’m not concerned whether F:30 (future roadmap) is still on, or whether he quickly holds an executive meeting. I believe the public would welcome exacting timelines. For example:

  • By Q4 2026: establish a national player database.

  • By Q1 2027: publish age‑specific physical and technical benchmarks.

  • By Q1 2027: test every National Football Development Programme in Malaysia (NFDP) cohort against those benchmarks.

  • By Q2 2027: publish player‑development progression data.

  • By 2027: establish minimum coaching qualifications for each development tier.

  • By 2028: ensure a certain percentage of identified elite prospects are playing defined minutes in professional football.

  • Every quarter: conduct an Asian Football Confederation (AFC)/FAM independent review.

These things would also align with the recovery timeline imposed by AFC.

If, by the end of October or November, FAM is still talking about “roadmap”, “restore confidence”, “return to Asean dominance”, “improve the ranking”, and so on, without an accountable reform timetable and measurable player‑development key performance index, then this looks like politician‑dominated continuity of a broken system.

Conversely, if FAM produces a proper AFC remediation matrix, an institutional capacity‑building plan, a player‑development measurement framework, deadlines, and named accountability, then maybe Malaysians can regard that as substantive evidence that this administration is operating differently.

Demi Negara Tercinta: Malaysians want transparency and accountability. Release all the information and processes behind the “heritage” player scandal.

The public should be able to understand what happened, who was responsible and what steps are being taken to prevent similar problems from happening again.

GreenWalrus1469: So, Mr president says sorry and moves on. Just like that. Just carry on with the clown show. An apology is one thing, but the public also wants to see what concrete action will follow.

Sealthedeal: How many people are on the executive held positions before the fraudulent signature issue arose, and why are they still there? Let the fans protest for a clean sweep.

Anonymous_15999: Integrity shall be embedded into the systems, organisations and individuals. However, too bad for FAM, as we need to have a special committee on integrity.

If integrity is already embedded in the system, there should not be a need to create another committee simply to ensure that basic standards are followed.

Autogenerated: Is this a paid job? Nice. Need a committee to keep a football team honest?

What will they think of next? Maybe a similar committee for every minister in the government? Great way to expand expenditure!!

Mechi: FAM's image is 3 out of 10. Rakyat has given up on them. Integrity is an alien word in FAM with members keen only to capitalise on the several perks of travel, contracts, claims, among others.

Malaysian soccer will never improve with such leadership lacking integrity.

Apanama is back: Previously, the FAM honorary president said, "forget and move on", while the new FAM president apologised and vowed no repeat. That's all. No action will be taken.

No one will be held responsible for the scandal. Why? Forget and move on with an apology, vowing it won't happen again. “Manyak Cantik!” (how convenient). Clap, clap, clap!

ScarletPanda9731: The new FAM boss is right. Apologise for what is wrong and do the right thing. And don't make the same mistake again! No Arabian Nights tale! Mean what you say and act. - Mkini
