KOTA KINABALU: Schools in Sabah will be temporarily closed if the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeds 150 for three consecutive days, the state government has announced.
State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman, who is also State Disaster Management Committee chairman, said the measure was taken to protect pupils and teachers from the adverse health effects of haze.
"This measure is also in line with the Education Ministry's directive following the advice of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim," he said in a statement today.
As of 7pm, Tawau was the only district to record an API reading above the threshold, at 155.
