KUALA LUMPUR: A soldier was arrested after he was found with a pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition and a liquid suspected to be ketum at the parking area of an army camp here on Tuesday.

Cheras deputy police chief Superintendent Lim Chun How said the man, in his 30s, was arrested by a team from the Cheras district police headquarters' Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division at 12.42am.

"Checks found that the soldier had three previous criminal records involving two drug-related cases and one criminal case," he said in a statement this afternoon.

He said the soldier was initially remanded for five days to facilitate investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.
