Malaysian woman dies in Marina Bay suites fire

A Malaysian woman was one of two people who died in a fire at the Marina Bay suites in Singapore last night, according to police.

The Straits Times (ST) newspaper quoted the police as saying that Sooria Kala Kanaseon, 34, and a male Singaporean, Sim Lai Huat, were security officers at the condominium.

The fire had occurred just after 10pm yesterday on the 65th floor of the 221-unit condominium that is still mostly unoccupied.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), in its update on the incident, said its fire-fighters encountered heavy smoke and intense heat as they made their way to the 65th floor.

They found that the service lift lobby area serving the 65 floor was fully engulfed in flames, and discovered two charred bodies inside the 65th floor service lift opening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
