CORONAVIRUS | Twelve police officers in Pulau Gaya, Sabah, have reportedly been ordered to undergo quarantine and Covid-19 tests after being unknowingly exposed to the body of a patient.
According to a report by Bernama, the twelve had handled the body of a suspected suicide victim in Kampung Pondo on April 6.
The body of the unidentified man subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Habibi Majinji (above) reportedly said all personnel involved were wearing protective equipment such as face masks and gloves at the time.
“All of them were directed to also undergo quarantine in their respective homes. The results of their screening tests are expected to be out today.
“We hope all the personnel involved are free of Covid-19 virus,” he was quoted as saying.
Free Malaysia Today quoted Habibi as saying that if any of the personnel do test positive for Covid-19, the police may have to close the Pulau Gaya police station.
Meanwhile, he said the deceased’s body was discovered at about 8.15am on April 6 with no identification documents, reported Bernama.
The body was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem and has yet to be claimed. The case is classified as sudden death.
