Sanusi claims MACC probe on Perlis MB's son part of 'election drama'

Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that an ongoing MACC probe against a son of Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli was part of a “drama” staged ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

PAS news organ Harakah quoted the Kedah menteri besar as saying the investigations involving five others will have no impact on PN or PAS in facing the by-election, which kicked off with official nominations today.

“That (investigation) is a drama set for the by-election. Everyone knows. It is not a big secret.

“All the scenes were ‘settings’ to face the by-election. We just laugh, they will make the ‘drama’,” Sanusi was quoted as saying during PAS’ official Hari Raya open house held in Kangar, Perlis, earlier today.

Shukri’s son and five others were arrested on Tuesday to assist in a MACC investigation linked to the submission of false documents and claims involving RM600,000 over the past two years.

The case relating to document forgery in making false claims is being investigated after the project which involved maintenance, repair, supply, and service works from 2022 until now, was not carried out.

Don’t just focus on opposition

A Perlis Magistrate’s Court initially granted a two-day remand order from Wednesday, which was then extended for another 24 hours, before they were released on MACC bail yesterday.

Commenting further, Sanusi said efforts to weed out corruption should not be focused only on the opposition.

He also reiterated PN’s often repeated claims of MACC’s selective persecution that supposedly targeted opposition-held states as opposed to those led by BN and Pakatan Harapan.

Shukri, who is also Perlis PAS commissioner, said the party’s Hari Raya open house held in Perlis for the first time will serve as a boost for PN to continue leading the state government.

“We hope and pray that we will hold on to our victory in Perlis so that all of our plans can be realised,” he said in his speech.

According to Harakah, those in attendance include PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS spiritual adviser Hashim Jasin, as well as other top PAS, Bersatu and PN leaders.

In Kuala Kubu Baharu, Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Ab Halim Tamuri was the highest-ranking PAS leader seen with PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut during official nominations held at the Hulu Selangor Multipurpose Hall and District Sports Complex. - Mkini
