PM Najib whispers apology to Sun reporter

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was said to have whispered an apology to Sun reporter Radzi Razak, allegedly thrashed by up to seven police officers yesterday.

Najib was seen whispering to Radzi when he paid the injured reporter a visit at Hospital Kuala Lumpur earlier today.
While he only said “yes” to Najib's apology, Radzi earlier urged Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to investigate the matter.

“We must (investigate). I assure you,” the minister was heard telling Radzi when he visited shortly before the PM.
'Kicked in the gut'

Radzi, who was moved from a lower class ward to join the injured police officers and al Hijrah cameraman in a four bed room for the PM's visit told Hishammuddin he was unduly attacked at the corner of Jalan Raja and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, he said he was sitting there with several other reporters when police charged the area, seemingly to arrest Bersih protesters who were standing in front of him.

He said the other reporters surrounding him yelled out “Press! Press!” to stop the attack which lasted about 30 seconds.

“After that the police just left.... I was wearing my press tag,” he said of the incident which occurred close to 7pm.

Old fracture

He added that paramedics were there within minutes, which he quipped is an improvement from Bersih 2.0.

“Then, I had to wait about 25 minutes for assistance,” said Radzi, who was hurt when protesters rushed to escape teargas at Jalan Pudu on July 9, 2011.

He said he was taken to hospital soon after paramedics arrived and doctors had yesterday said he had fractured ribs.

“But today they checked again and found that it was actually an old fracture. I have bruises on my head and the specialist is still running checks on whether I have internal injuries,” he said.

Radzi lodged a police report on the incident at about 2pm today.
