Two sultans, 8 characters, RM740,000

Two sultans, 8 characters, RM740,000
Two reigning monarchs paid a whopping RM740,000 to secure for themselves eight characters which will adorn their vehicles, according to the result of the bidding organised by the Road Transport Department for number plates under the 'WWW' series.
For the four-character 'WWW 1', the Sultan of Johor paid RM520,000, while the current Yang DiPertuan Agong, currently the Sultan of Kedah, paid 220,000 for the number 'WWW 5'.
Many of the other high bids are for most sought-after numbers, including for the numbers 3, 333, 888 and 99, all of which combined would make the RTD richer by hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
The Sultan of Johor's latest number plate is said to be the most expensive ever paid by anyone in the country's history.
It is not immediately known who would foot the RTD bills to pay the numbers bidded by both monarchs.
Meanwhile, MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai also did not want to be left out in the frenzy to buy the alphanumerics, paying RM4,840 for each character, or RM24,200, in order to be the proud owner of the number 'WWW 15'.
