Dog trainer arrested over video Raya greeting

Dog trainer Maznah Mohd Yusof, who is under fire for a Hari Raya Aidilfitri greeting video she posted involving her dogs, has been arrested.
When contacted, Maznah confirmed this and said she is being held at Bukit Aman.

NONESounding calm, she said that she had earlier been quizzed by the police special branch and officers from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

"They asked me about my intention of posting the video (three years ago) and so forth," she said.
When contacted, lawyer Latheefa Koya said Maznah had contacted her "when she was in the police car, to inform us she is being taken to Bukit Aman and will be possibly held for 24 hours".

According to Latheefa, Maznah is being arrested under Section 298A of the Penal Code which deals with causing disharmony in respect of the religions.

“They are waiting for me to arrive before starting (the interrogation),” the lawyer said.

In the controversial video, Maznah is shown cleaning herself and her dogs while the Takbir Raya and a Hari Raya song was playing in the background.

This prompted an outcry, including a police report by Muslim NGO Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibah Malaysia (MJMM) urging stern action against her as “dogs are dirty in Islam”.

Maznah, however, said that she was not insulting Islam in the video she first posted three years ago and was only showing that cleanliness should be observed, including for dogs.
