Deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin has been urged to apologise for blaming non-Muslims over a Youtube Aidilfitri greeting created by a dog trainer, who turned out to be a Muslim.
In a press release today, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said Muhyiddin, who made the accusation during his speech at a breaking of fast function yesterday, had overreacted and was contributing to racial strife.
“Muhyiddin should apologise for jumping the gun in falsely blaming non-Muslim 'callousness towards Islam and Muslim sensitivities' for the latest controversial 1:44 minute video.
“Secondly, Muhyiddin should also apologise for condemning the video without checking the facts,” said Lim.
Lim was referring to a NST report today where Muhyiddin was quoted saying there were “some quarters” who was trying to trample Islam while “no Muslims has made fun of other faiths”.

Nation-building
Muhyiddin was referring to a 1:44 minute video, uploaded in 2010, depicting dog trainer Maznah Ibrahim and her three dogs meant as an Aidilfitri greeting. The NST report also erroneously referred to Maznah as a man.
Maznah told Malaysiakini that her video was not meant as an insult to Islam. However, she has since been arrested and brought to Bukit Aman.
Lim said that the country was hurtling towards greater racial and religious polarisation and urged leaders of BN and Pakatan Rakyat to focus on nation-building.
"Can Muhyiddin play his part in this Malaysian nation-building process?" Lim asked rhetorically.
"Yes, but he must demonstrate that he is a DPM for all Malaysians and not just for Umno - that he is Malaysian first, Malay second rather than Malay first, Malaysian second."
