'Gangsters sabotaging water pumping in Selangor'

The Selangor state government today claimed that its attempt to pump water into the river at Bestari Jaya to ensure continuous water supply for the Hari Raya period is being "sabotaged" by some parties.

The state executive councillor for Youth, Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (centre in pic) said in a statement today some officers were threatened from pumping water by a group of gangsters "with weapons".

"Due to fears for their safety, the team had to leave the scene," he said, disclosing that the incident took place at 3am today.

Because of this, he said the pumping of water was delayed by five hours.

"A police report has been lodged at the Bestari Jaya police station," he added.

He said that officers from the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and the Irrigation and Drainage Department are currently pumping water to ensure that the raw water supply is sufficient for the festive period.
