No website, including news portals, will be exempted from being blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) if it promotes, spreads information and encourages the public to participate in the Bersih 4 rally, said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari.
He said MCMC decided on this as the rally has been declared illegal.
"So, if any website tries to post anything to attract Internet surfers to attend the rally, MCMC will not hesitate to shut it down and police will also not hesitate to take action," he told the media outside the KL Converge 2015 annual conference and exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Jailani was commenting on a statement by the MCMC today that, following a media statement by the Home Ministry, it had decided to bar any websites from promoting, spreading information and encouraging the public to take part in the Bersih 4 rally which could disrupt national stability.
He said the decision was made by the MCMC following a discussion with the Attorney-General's Chambers and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). – Bernama
