KUALA LUMPUR: DAP’s Lim Lip Eng has filed a report against the Red Shirts rally held in the city yesterday, calling on the police to investigate “several statements and provocative speeches against race and religion” that were made by rally goers.
“We implore the police to arrest the participants who also injured three policemen and threw hard objects at them, calling them ‘barua cina’ (lackeys of the Chinese),” said the MP for Segambut, who officially made the report at the Dang Wangi police station.
“We also ask the police to investigate the accusations made by some of the participants against DAP that intentionally linked Lim Kit Siang (DAP Parliamentary leader) with the 13 May incident.”
Lim was accompanied by Edry Faizal Yusof of the Selangor DAP state committee, Muhammad Shakir Ameer of the Dapsy (DAP Malaysia Socialist Youth) National Exco and Nor Miswary Ramli, assistant secretary of DAP USJ.
Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali delivered a speech at the rally yesterday calling DAP racists while blaming them for stoking racial sentiments and creating poor race relations among Malaysians.
As to the “throwing of hard objects”, Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Rafii alleged yesterday that outside parties had been paid to provoke the crowd by throwing stones at rally goers and letting off firecrackers in their midst.
Addressing supporters from Johor, Razlan was quoted as saying, “We are here to show the Chinese DAP that Malays are in power. The other day they stomped on a picture of Malay leaders but I don’t see any stomping today. We must not behave in such a way.”
