Moderately heavy rain forecast for several states



Rain, which will occasionally become moderately heavy, is expected to prevail in several places in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang until tomorrow, according to the Meteorological Services Department.
The department, which issued an orange-stage heavy rain warning at 10.10am today, said the affected areas were the districts of Kuala Krai, Gua Musang and Jeli in Kelantan; Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu and Kuantan, Pekan, Rompin, Jerantut, Maran, Lipis and Cameron Highlands in Pahang.
According to the department website, thunderstorms were expected to occur in places in the coastal areas in Sandakan, Sabah, and Bintulu, Sarawak, and also in Kuching, Mukah and Samarahan in Sarawak in the morning.
In the afternoon, thunderstorms were forecast for several areas in Pahang and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, strong north-easterly winds with speeds of between 50 and 60kph and waves reaching as high as 4.5 metres were expected in the waters of Condore, Reef North and Layang-Layang until Friday.
The condition would be hazardous to all shipping and coastal activities, including fishing and ferry services.
Strong south-westerly winds of 40 to 50kph with waves rising as high as 3.5 metres were also expected in the waters of Samui, Tioman, Bunguran, Reef South, Palawan, Kuching and Labuan until Friday.
This condition would be hazardous to small boats, sea recreation and sporting activities.
