The Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) has again rejected claims it received government funds for political purposes.
MAICCI secretary-general AT Kumararajah said while the group has received state funds before, the money was used for programmes for its members and the business community.
"We want to stress that we have never received any funding from the government for any political purposes or election campaigns," Kumararajah said in a statement.
He reiterated that the chamber would cooperate with the authorities investigating the matter.
Last week, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli claimed MAICCI had utilised RM2 million, received as a 'donation grant' in 2013, to fund BN's 13th general election campaign.
Rafizi also displayed several payment vouchers that he claimed detailed how the BN benefited from RM2 million in taxpayers' money to fund the polls campaign.
Among others, Rafizi claimed, the payments were made by MAICCI for various BN-linked events between March 29, 2013, and May 29, 2013.
The 13th general election was held on May 5, 2013.
This followed his allegation on Feb 23 that the Finance Ministry had, in 2013, approved the amount as a 'donation grant' to MAICCI.
Rafizi also revealed minutes from an MAICCI meeting dated May 11, 2013, during which its president Kenneth Eswaran had allegedly admitted to obtaining the donation to be used for election purposes. -Mkini
