KOTA BHARU: PAS is still waiting for consent from the Conference of Rulers before tabling a private member’s bill to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 in Parliament to pave the way for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.
Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II Technical Committee chairman Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said any amendments involving the Syariah Court and syariah laws would require the consent of the Conference of Rulers.
As it is, there are still some sultans who have yet to give their consent, he told reporters when met at the Kelantan Menteri Besar’s official residence, JKR 10, here today.
Earlier, a councillor at the Saudi Arabian Embassy, Abdul Rahman al-Harfi, paid a courtesy call on Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob and Amar at JKR 10.
On the decision by former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to quit Umno, Amar, who is also PAS vice-president, said it was not something out of the ordinary.
He said Dr Mahathir did the same thing when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was prime minister.
