Zahid: Priority for 'professional, ethical media' to cover my ministry

PARLIAMENT There is no ban on any media from providing coverage of the Home Ministry, said minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
However, he said, priority is given for professional and ethical media.
"Priority is given to media agency representatives/personnel that practice professionalism and respects journalism ethics when providing news coverage, in their writing, and spreading news to the public," Zahid said.
He added that in 2015 the Home Ministry did not receive any official complaints of the media being barred from attending the ministry's functions either at the ministry's premises or on the field.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, was replying to a question from Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR-Ampang) on whether online portals such as Malaysiakini were barred from covering Home Ministry events.
Zahid said besides being professional and ethical, journalists must also have valid press tags, and be dressed appropriately.
He also took a veiled jab at the Penang state government, which had prevented journalists from Utusan Malaysia and TV3 from providing coverage at the state assembly.
