Incident happened at Jengka 11, Maran, when they spotted the robbers entering the home of an elderly man.
MARAN: Two brothers were slashed by a group of robbers armed with parang when they tried to help their septuagenarian neighbour who was robbed at his home in Jengka 11, Maran, here early today.
In the 4am incident, the victims — Fauzi Dollah, 42, and Kamaruzzaman, 26 — had gone to help a Felda settler, Husin Misban, 70, and his family members after noticing a group of men prying open the window of the house.
Kamaruzzaman said his elder brother, Fauzi, called the police before waiting at the back of the house, hoping to nab the robbers red handed once the police arrived.
“We then heard they were about to rush out. As soon as the door was opened, they crashed into my brother. He (Fauzi) managed to apprehend one of them and the suspect begged for mercy.
“However, two of the robbers returned to save their accomplice and attacked my brother.
“It happened so fast. We then heard police release three warning shots and the robbers fled,” he told reporters here today.
Kamaruzzaman said he sustained injuries on his hand and received five stitches.
His brother was sent to the Temerloh Hospital after he was slashed in the head. According to his wife, Salasiah Ahmad, 41, her husband needed to undergo surgery.
Meanwhile, Maran police chief DSP Mat Rizal Mat Radzi said the septuagenarian’s family had lodged a police report over the incident, stating they had incurred losses amounting to RM30,000 as the robbers had carted away five handphones, jewellery and RM1,500 in cash.
“The search for the suspects is ongoing. They are believed to have escaped through the back lane of the house that leads to a palm oil plantation,” he said.
At the time of the incident, the robbery victim was at his home with his wife; two grandchildren aged one and three and a 22-year-old nanny. None of them were hurt. -FMT
