'Old story', CEO accused of conflict of interest tells Saifuddin

The CEO of a government-linked company accused of conflict of interest for handing out projects to a private firm said the accusations by a PKR leader today are nothing new.
"It's an old story," JKP Sdn Bhd CEO Samrulzaman K Mohideen told Malaysiakini.
"But I reserve my comments for now. I will discuss with my company on further actions," Samrulzaman said when asked if he would be releasing an official response on the matter.
He was referring to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, who claimed today that Samrulzaman held the position of director in SSJ Engineering Consultancy, while being the CEO of JKP.
Saifuddin said JKP has been dishing out RM3 million worth of projects to SSJ, while Samrulzaman continues to be its director.
Based on documents he provided, Saifuddin said Samrulzaman was appointed a director in SSJ on Dec 5, 2005, but he resigned a week later.
However, he continued to sign cheques and communicated with the bank on behalf of the engineering firm.
Saifuddin urged JKP chairperson Zainal Abidin Osman, who is also Penang Umno liaison chief and Penang Bumiputera Development Council chairperson, to clarify the matter.
Earlier, Zainal Abidin had warned that he would be exposing the weaknesses of the Penang government at the Umno AGM, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 5 to 9.
In a tit for tat move, Saifuddin warned that he would be revealing a series of exposes ahead of the Umno AGM, and he called on Zainal Abidin to keep his house in order first.
Malaysiakini has contacted Zainal Abidin for comment.- Mkini
