Yeo announces RM135.2mil allocation to improve electricity in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: As campaigning for the May 11 polls enters its fourth day, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change minister Yeo Bee Yin has announced a RM135.2mil allocation to improve electricity supply in Sandakan.
According to Yeo, the total amount involved four projects under the Special Project for Sabah Electricity Supply in Sabah (PPKBES).
Yeo said that among the four projects is the transformation of the Mowtas and Permai Main Distribution Substation (PPU) worth RM20mil, which was completed last March 1.
At the same time, she said, the Bukit Nenas PPU worth RM34.2mil is in the works, and is expected to be completed by next June.
The Batu Sapi PPU worth RM32mil, she said, is in the process of procurement and is expected to be completed by May 2021, while the Transformation projects at Tshun Ngen and Sim Sim PPU, worth RM49mil, is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
“All plans to address the issue of electrical supply in Sabah is running smoothly. The Federal government is working closely with the Sabah state government in addressing the issue of electricity supply,” she said.
Yeo was speaking to reporters after launching the “anti-plastic” campaign at Pulau Berhala on Tuesday (April 30).
Present with Yeo was DAP candidate Vivian Wong, who will contest the Sandakan polls in a five-cornered fight.
Wong said that the campaign is to educate the residents of Pulau Berhala against littering at the island.
“So, we will encourage them to clean up all the rubbish and plastic so that we can educate them about the harms of plastic towards the environment,” she added.- Star
