Negri govt terminates appointments of all Bersatu local councillors

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has terminated the appointments of all local councillors from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) with immediate effect, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic).
He said similarly, the state Pakatan Harapan government has also revoked the appointments of Bersatu coordinators in six state constituencies since the party has quit the coalition.
"We had no choice but to terminate their appointments as they are no longer in Pakatan.
"This had to be done as it involved matters related to administration, finance and policy-making," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (Feb 26).
The office of the state secretary had on Tuesday (Feb 25) issued a directive to all local authorities not to invite Bersatu councillors to any of their meetings.
There are seven local authorities in the state. All except the Port Dickson Municipal and Tampin district councils have appointed councillors.
Aminuddin said Bersatu representatives appointed as Village Community Management Council (MPKK) heads would not be affected by the move.
"The MPKK heads will not be affected because they are not involved in state administration and financial matters," he said, adding that the tenure of all MPKK heads ends next month.
Pakatan controls 20 of the 36 seats in the state assembly. DAP has 11 followed by PKR (six) and Amanah (three).
Bersatu had contested the Palong, Seri Menanti, Chembong, Gemencheh, Pertang and Bagan Pinang seats in the last general election but failed to win any. - Star
