MCO imposed in 5 districts in Kedah

The movement control order has been enforced in Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Bandar Baharu, Baling and Kulim in Kedah following an increase in cases.

PETALING JAYA: Five districts in Kedah will go under a movement control order (MCO) effective tomorrow, says senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The districts are Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Bandar Baharu, Baling and Kulim.

The MCO there is set to last until May 14.

This follows 709 Covid-19 cases reported in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, two localities in Kunak, Sabah (Kampung Skim Cocos and SMK Madai), and one in Kuching (Kampung Sagah, Jalan Sungai Tengah Matang), will go under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow until May 14.

In a statement, Ismail said the health ministry had reported a drastic increase in cases in the two localities.

He said the EMCO affecting SM Sains Machang, Kelantan, will be extended until May 14. The EMCO there was scheduled to end tomorrow.

The EMCO affecting two localities in Sarawak (Taman Mesra Bako, Kuching, and Kampung Tengah, Betong) and three residential areas in Tawau, Sabah (Taman Hilltop, Taman Bukit Bintang and Taman Berkeley) will end tomorrow as scheduled following a downward trend in active Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Ismail said police arrested 420 people for breaching MCO rules yesterday. Of that number, 417 were fined while three were remanded.

Among the offences were flouting physical distancing rules (188), failure to record personal details or to check in with MySejahtera (162), failure to wear a face mask (48) and others (22). - FMT
