MySejahtera adds new feature for pregnant, lactating mums

A new feature has been added to the MySejahtera application to allow pregnant and lactating mothers to identify themselves as such when they register and sign up for a Covid-19 vaccination appointment.

This will enable them to receive the recommended Covid-19 vaccines as per Health Ministry's guidelines.

"In your MySejahtera appointment page, you can now update if you're pregnant or a breastfeeding mum. Please inform your family members, relatives and friends," said Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh on Facebook today.

In announcing the new feature last Tuesday, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also advised these women to consult their doctors before deciding on whether to get vaccinated or not.

He noted that the recommendation for pregnant women is to get the Pfizer vaccine when they are between week 14 and week 33 of their pregnancy.

According to the May 24 guidelines issued by the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are suitable for lactating mothers.

As for Sinovac, there is limited available data on this vaccine's usage for that group of women.

JKJAV, however, does not recommend pregnant women to take AstraZeneca and Sinovac jabs.

The committee will update vaccine suitability for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers from time to time.

Meanwhile, people who declined their appointment for AstraZeneca will be contacted and given the opportunity to re-enrol into the vaccination programme at a future date.
