PETALING JAYA: The Dewan Negara sitting, set for Aug 3-5, has been postponed to a new date which will be announced later.

The circular, signed by Dewan Negara secretary Sujairi Abdullah, said the postponement was made by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in accordance with the Standing Orders of the senate.

It said the postponement was made in line with recommendations from the health director-general and risk assessment conducted by the health ministry following the spread of Covid-19 infections.

This comes after the health ministry decided that Parliament was a locality at risk of the spread of Covid-19.

Yesterday, a circular sent to MPs also announced that the final day of the special Dewan Rakyat sitting had been postponed to another date.

This comes after a recent Covid-19 outbreak in Parliament, where 56 Covid-19 cases had been detected within the building. - FMT
