Covid-19 deaths (Jan 2): 26 reported fatalities

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has reported another 26 new deaths caused by Covid-19 yesterday (Jan 1), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,513.

The daily reported deaths have been above 20 for 6 consecutive days. An average of 33 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 28, indicating a downtrend.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 11.5 percent or 3 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

The number of deaths was highest in Kuala Lumpur (7) followed by Selangor (4), Pahang (3), Perak (3), Terengganu (3), Kedah (2), Johor (1), Kelantan (1), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Sarawak (1).

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 17 out of the 26 reported deaths or 65.4 percent happened in the last seven days.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

As of yesterday, there were 41,034 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 10 percent from the 45,595 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 34.1 percent from 62,254.
