239 candidates vying for 56 seats in Johor polls

 

Election Commission chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said the candidates comprise 202 men and 37 women.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Election Commission (EC) confirmed that a total of 239 candidates are contesting in the Johor state elections.

EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said Barisan Nasional (BN) dan Perikatan Nasional (PN) are the only two coalitions to contest in all 56 state seats.

Of the 10 other parties involved in the Johor polls, the next two highest were Pakatan Harapan (PH), which was contesting in 50 seats, and Pejuang in 42.

He added that of the 239 candidates, there were 16 independents. The gender breakdown of candidates was 202 men and 37 women.
