The four candidates vying for the Bukit Kepong seat waving to the media after their names were officially announced at the Dewan Karisma Institut Kemahiran Tinggi Belia Negara in Pagoh.

PAGOH: Incumbent Dr Sahruddin Jamal from Bersatu will be facing three other candidates in the contest for the Bukit Kepong state seat in the Johor elections.

Election Commission (EC) returning officer Rahman @ Abdul Rahman Selamat officially announced the names of the four candidates for the seat — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Ismail Mohamad, Nurafiqah M Zulkifli (Muda), Taib Md Suhut (Pejuang) and Sahruddin (Perikatan Nasional) – after nominations were closed.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) is not contesting in Bukit Kepong after its component party Amanah agreed to give way to Muda.

Sahruddin was menteri besar from 2019 to 2020 in the former Pakatan Harapan (PH) state government.

He won the seat in the 14th general election (GE14) in May 2018 with a 1,273-vote majority in a three-cornered fight against BN and PAS.

Earlier today, police officers were present to guard the entrance to the nomination centre at Dewan Karisma Institut Kemahiran Tinggi Belia Negara (IKTBN).

Under the election SOPs, supporters are not allowed to accompany the candidates to file their nomination papers. - FMT
