Initial investigations into Kota Kemuning church fire show no foul play

Initial investigations into the fire that destroyed an Assembly of God church lot in Kota Kemuning show no signs of foul play, said the police.

Shah Alam district police chief Baharudin Mat Taib told Malaysiakini this when contacted.

"We received a report from a complainant that the premises were on fire at around 11.17pm yesterday.

"A team was despatched, and the fire was completely extinguished at approximately 2359 hrs by the fire department.

"No casualties were reported, but almost 80-90 percent of the premises was destroyed," he said.

He added that while the cause of the fire has not yet been identified, investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a call about the incident and dispatched four fire engines and 25 personnel to the scene.

The incident involved the second floor of a double-storey shop lot, which housed the Kota Kemuning Assemblies of God Church.

"When responders arrived at the scene, they found that the blaze only affected the top floor of the building, which is used as a church.

"The firefighters managed to put out the blaze, and no casualties were reported in this incident," he said. - Mkini
