We’re open, but some parties don’t want cooperation, says Wan Saiful

KOTA KINABALU: Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan has taken a swipe at Umno, saying his party is ready to work with its allies ahead of the 15th general election (GE15) but there are parties that do not want such cooperation.

Asked whether he thought Bersatu and Umno should continue working together under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-BN (GRS-BN) pact for GE15, Wan Saiful, who did not mention Umno by name, said his party had been clear that it wanted to maintain its partnership with other parties.

“But at the same time, we can see that there are certain parties that insist they do not want to have that unity among political parties,” he said before a closed-door dialogue with Bersatu division information chiefs here tonight.

“We are consistent in wanting to build a stable and cohesive partnership with others, so we hope they feel the same way.”

Bersatu is a component in the GRS coalition, along with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

Meanwhile, Sabah Bersatu information chief Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan agreed that the GRS-BN relationship should be maintained.

“The relationship between GRS and BN is intact because our main focus is to develop the state and look after the people’s welfare,” he said. - FMT
