Radzi: Azalina is proof that Umno unrepentant

Umno supreme council Azalina Othman Said's decision to openly question Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob's choice of attorney-general was proof that Umno was unrepentant, Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Jidin.

Speaking to reporters in Hulu Langat, Selangor today, Radzi (above) said Azalina's comments showed that Umno had not changed its ways despite being "punished" by voters during the 2018 national polls.

"Some may think Umno has repented after losing during the 14th general election... But this is their approach.

"The fact is, Umno wants to show that if they control the prime minister, they have the power to change whoever they like. That is their approach.

"That was unlike how Muhyiddin Yassin ran the country for two years," said Radzi, according to Berita Bersatu.

Azalina was a speaker during a special briefing for Umno leaders yesterday where she openly questioned why Ismail Sabri did not choose "his people" as attorney-general.

The present attorney-general - Idrus Harun - was chosen in 2020 when Muhyiddin was prime minister.

"If the power to change the AG is in the hands of the prime minister, why didn't he change the AG when this is under his jurisdiction?

"I just want to ask this, why can't the AG be changed?" asked Azalina, the special advisor to the prime minister on matters of law and human rights.

The special briefing was held after Najib Abdul Razak began serving his 12-year sentence for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering on Tuesday.

‘PN spoke about integrity’

Radzi said the speeches made by Umno leaders during the special briefing were starkly different from those at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) convention held on the same day.

"At the PN convention, we spoke about integrity and the good of the people. But at PWTC (Umno headquarters), they are questioning why the prime minister did not change the attorney-general.

"They are insulting the courts. That is the difference in priorities between PN and BN," he added. - Mkini
