Ex-AG gives statement to police over investigation into his book

 


The police have taken the statement of former attorney-general Tommy Thomas in relation to an investigation on a book he wrote.

According to Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, the authorities have opened an investigation paper over the issue.

“Following the special task force’s report investigating allegations in the book, ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’ which was briefed to the cabinet and instructions were given by the prime minister for further investigation to be carried out immediately.

“The investigation paper - which has been streamlined - will be once more referred to the Attorney-General's Office on October 3, 2022, for further instructions,” she said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob ordered enforcement agencies to investigate further the various allegations made in Tommy’s memoir.

He said Thomas would be investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act for attempting to carry out any act that has a seditious tendency.

Section 4 provides a maximum jail term of three years, an RM5,000 fine, or both.

Thomas will also be probed under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act for divulging secrets, Section 23 of the MACC Act for abuse of power, and Sections 124I (disseminating false reports) and 203A (disclosing information) of the Penal Code. - Mkini
