PETALING JAYA: A government probe into former attorney-general (AG) Tommy Thomas’ memoirs over claims of exposure of state secrets and seditious remarks will be released to the public, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
“We will reveal it,” he said when asked by reporters on the matter on the sidelines of an event in Kuala Lumpur. He did not elaborate further.
Yesterday, Ismail said a special task force found four main issues with Thomas’ memoirs, which were claims against the judiciary, leak of government secrets, power abuse and negligence, and seditious remarks.
The book, titled My Story: Justice in the Wilderness, was published in January last year.
Thomas, who served as the AG for 20 months and resigned after Pakatan Harapan lost power, was also alleged to have defamed and insulted various parties in the book.
Among those who lodged reports against him were former AG Apandi Ali and former solicitor-general Hanafiah Zakaria.
The special task force looking into his book was led by Sarawak state legal adviser and former state AG JC Fong.
Other members of the task force were former Sabah government chief secretary Hashim Paijan, former legal affairs division director Junaidah Kamarudin, former judge BS Jagjit Singh as well as lawyers Shaharudin Ali and K Balaguru.
Meanwhile, police said they had taken Thomas’ statement in relation to an investigation of his book.
Bukit Aman secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the authorities have opened an investigation paper on the issue.
“Following the special task force’s report on the allegations in the book to the Cabinet, instructions were given by the prime minister for further investigation to be carried out immediately.
“The investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Monday for further instructions,” she said in a statement today. - FMT
