Don't rule out Azmin returning as Selangor MB, says PN man

Perikatan Nasional has not ruled out the possibility of nominating Azmin Ali as the Selangor menteri besar if he wins the state election, said Selangor PN election machinery deputy director Zulkafperi Hanafi.

Zulkafperi, who is also Tanjong Karang MP, said opportunities are always open for the former Selangor MB to return to lead the state.

However, he said all decisions rest with the PN leadership to determine the best candidate for the state polls, which must be held before June this year.

"Opportunities are always open for Azmin if he succeeds in winning a seat in the state legislative assembly," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Zulkafperi said PN is also confident in that direction based on Azmin's experience which could help him win in Selangor.

However, he admitted that Azmin, who is also PN's information chief, is facing a difficult task in defending the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat that he has held since 2008.

“The seat is expected to be tight because the Malay voters are less than 50 percent.

“We do not rule out the possibility of him staying or choosing another state assembly that may side with PN," he said.

For the record, Azmin held the position of Selangor menteri besar from 2014 to 2018.

Meanwhile, Zulkafperi said he is confident that PN will win 33 out of the 56 state assembly seats in the next polls.

He added that PN machinery is in a state of readiness and is at its best.

"Observations found that many young people are increasingly supporting PN, especially through social media platforms.

"I am confident that PN will be able to capture Selangor through the unification of the ummah between Bersatu and PAS.

"We want the wave of Malays to continue supporting PN and rejecting Pakatan Harapan and BN,” he said. - Mkini
