Stop attacking PM, establish good relations with govt, opposition urged

Opposition leaders must stop attacking Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and work towards establishing good relations with the federal government to allow the federal administration to function properly.

Director-general of the Community Communication Department (J-KOM) Mohammad Agus Yusoff (above) said they could also negotiate with the federal government if they want an equal allocation to all MPs regardless of party.

“Anwar has repeatedly expressed his willingness to do so, the opposition leaders only need to come forward to negotiate.

“That’s what Anwar did when he was the opposition leader. He came to negotiate with the then prime minister (Ismail Sabri Yaakob), resulting in the signing of the MOU (memorandum of understanding) on Political Stability and Transformation between the federal government and Pakatan Harapan on Sept 13, 2021,” he said via a Facebook post today.

He added that Anwar’s actions at the time exemplified a constructive opposition, with a good agenda for administrative transformation, parliamentary reforms, judicial independence and implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Agus said Anwar, who is also the finance minister, is also working hard to speed up the implementation of the reform agenda as promised.

“Be patient. Anwar and the government have only been in power for five months. Measure the success of Anwar and the government with your heart,” he said.

Agus said Anwar is also committed to good governance, combating corruption and abuse of power, (refraining from) selective prosecution and protecting the welfare of the poor.

“I’m optimistic. I really hope reform initiatives can be expedited, and the Malaysia Madani concept will be well implemented,” he said.
