Endau's Alwiyah Talib injured in road accident near Mersing

MERSING: Endau assemblywoman Alwiyah Talib had to receive 19 stitches on her face after she was involved in a car accident here.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the incident took place at KM28 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing and was reported at around 5.30pm on Monday (April 1).

He said that the assemblywoman and six other family members were traveling in a multi-purpose vehicle from Johor Baru to Mersing when it happened.

“We believe that her husband, who was driving the vehicle, suddenly lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the side of the road.

“As a result, the assemblywoman sustained injuries to her chin and mouth and she was sent to Hospital Mersing for medical treatment,” said Supt Abdul Razak when contacted.

He added that Alwiyah’s other family members were not injured in the incident, which is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).

Meanwhile, Alwiyah’s special officer Muhamad Amerul Muhamad said she had completed her medical treatment at around 8pm after the accident.

He said she is currently resting after having received 13 stitches in the mouth and six stitches on her chin.

“The doctor also issued her a nine-day medical certificate from April 1 until April 9 so she is unable to fulfill all her scheduled appointments and engagements during this period.

“She conveys her apologies for the inconvenience and hope the programmes will go on smoothly as planned,” he added. - Star
