PETALING JAYA

Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, has been remanded for two days to assist in an investigation into his allegations of corruption involving a senior naval officer.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court today.

His lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said Badrul was detained to assist in three investigations related to the giving of false information under Section 203A of the Penal Code, wrongful communication under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972, and the misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The investigating officer requested a four-day remand, but after hearing arguments from both sides, the court classified Badrul as a whistleblower entitled to legal protection who cannot be subjected to criminal or civil action.

As a result, the court granted a two-day remand. If there are no issues, Chegubard will be released tomorrow,

he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

It was reported yesterday that Badrul was arrested by police in Putrajaya at 3pm. - FMT
