PETALING JAYA
The RM305 million women and children’s complex at Kajang Hospital is expected to be operational in September this year, according to the health ministry.

Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the public works department (JKR) is set to hand over the project to his ministry next month.

The project is currently in the final phase of construction and is expected to be fully completed by the middle of this month,
he said in a written parliamentary reply.

Dzulkefly was responding to Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), who asked to provide a status update on the complex, which has faced delays.

FMT previously reported that the project was almost complete, but the project contractor and JKR had postponed the handover date several times.

The handover was initially scheduled for November last year but was subsequently rescheduled to February this year and then to April.

The complex would ease congestion at the 135-year-old hospital by adding 272 beds to the hospital’s existing 306 beds. It was originally scheduled to be completed in April 2021.

Dzulkefly said the main cause of delays was the suspension of work due to the movement control order during the Covid-19 pandemic, along with issues related to technical specification and compliance with local authority requirements.

Currently, the contractor is making improvements based on feedback from the relevant departments and agencies to obtain support letters from them before the Certificate of Completion and Compliance can be issued for this project,
 he added. - FMT
