PAS info chief: “Hands that consume pork are cleaner than those which accept bribes”

“HANDS of those who are embroiled in corruption are much more despicable than those who consume pork. Don’t insult the Chinese race!”

Such is the response from PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari to Wanita Amanah chief Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu who has come under fire from the Islamist party for ‘seemingly endorsing’ the Tiger Beer-sponsored fund-raising exercise for the construction of a multi-purpose hall for SJK (C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek, Selangor.

In a rebuttal to brickbats hurled at her by detractors, the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government has described PAS as hypocritical for criticising her by alluding to the fact that prior to this, “PAS leaders had no problem greeting non-Muslims who were drinking alcohol or eating pork”.

Instead of prolonging the polemic, Fadhli contended that the Sepang MP could just apologise for her oversight rather than offering excuses.

“I think the best thing is for her to say, ‘I’m sorry for I didn’t notice that Tiger Beer was being promoted in the event’,” the Pasir Mas MP penned on his Facebook page.

“Instead, the issue has to be dragged into ‘hands that consume pork’. The Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek) has issued a statement that there are no exceptions (for both national and national-type schools in fund-raising exercise involving sponsors from gambling, cigarette and alcohol-related industries).

Taking a further jab at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmaker, Fadhli claimed that there is no law in Islam that prohibits greeting hands that consume pork so long as such action does not happen “between people of the opposite sex who are not legally married”.

“In essence, the hand that accepts bribes, breaks promise and deceives the people is worse than the hand that consumes pork. Does the YB Deputy Minister actually intend to insult our Chinese friends? Just asking,” wondered Fadhli.

To put the PAS-Amanah dispute in perspective, PH backers have asserted that there was no issue whatsoever with beer producers sponsoring schools during the 33 months Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration, hence the entire episode is nothing more than a fault-finding mission to undermine the Madani government.
