PETALING JAYA
Former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein and ex-information chief Shahril Hamdan have not appealed for their six-year suspension from the party to be lifted.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said his office had not received any letter of appeal for the suspension to be withdrawn, Berita Harian reported.

However, Asyraf claimed that many former Umno members who previously defected to its rivals had since applied to become Umno members again.

“Many who left the party previously and joined our rivals have already submitted applications in hopes of rejoining Umno,” he was quoted as saying.

On Monday, the Umno Supreme Council unanimously agreed to lift Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s six-year suspension from the party, reinstating the former Pasir Salak MP as an Umno member immediately.

He was slapped with a six-year suspension from the party before the 15th general election (GE15), after publicly criticising Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s leadership.

Several months after GE15, Umno sacked former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and slapped six-year suspensions on Hishammuddin, Shahril, former Johor executive councillor Maulizan Bujang and ex-Jempol MP Salim Sharif.

Shahril and Hishammuddin previously said they would not appeal their suspension as the real reason for the action was not known. - FMT
