When the 1MDB scandal erupted, Pakatan Harapan leaders were at the forefront of the campaign to hold then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak accountable under the law.
Against this backdrop, Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said she found it “strange” that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim - who also chairs Harapan - would rebuke coalition figures who expressed satisfaction over yesterday’s court ruling.
“I find it strange and inappropriate that PMX, as the leader of PKR and Harapan, would issue such a statement.
“After all, there are so many activists and politicians within PKR who fought against Najib when he was prime minister,” she said in a social media post today.
Earlier, Anwar, without mentioning names, urged all quarters to handle the issue concerning the High Court’s decision to reject Najib’s bid for house arrest with patience and wisdom.

“Even though there are those who choose not to express sympathy with Najib and his family, it is not wise to muddy the situation and heighten tensions in this sensitive situation,” he said.
Not wrong to celebrate ‘people’s victory’
Amira argued that those who welcomed and celebrated the court decision were not acting out of personal vengeance.
“Rather, it is a celebration of the law - a celebration of the people’s victory in 2018,” she added, referencing the 14th general election when Harapan defeated the Najib-led BN and paved the way for the former premier’s prosecution and conviction.
Amira said she could understand the anger of some Umno members, since Najib was their former president, but she could not comprehend why some PKR members were upset with those who regarded the ruling as a cause for celebration.

Umno reacted strongly after DAP MP Yeo Bee Yin remarked that the verdict was another reason to celebrate the year-end, sparking calls for Najib’s party to reconsider its position in the coalition government.
Her remark also drew criticism from certain quarters within PKR, with some describing it as uncalled for and lacking political maturity, warning that it could deepen divisions between parties in the Madani government.
DAP’s disciplinary committee chief and former MP Tony Pua, who was among the Harapan politicians pursuing the 1MDB scandal, came to Yeo’s defence and branded those supporting Najib as “lovers of the biggest crook in Malaysia”. - Mkini
